Our director, Rabbi Reuven Elkins, is a specialist in the diagnosis and remediation of learning disabilities. A musmach of Yeshiva Derech Chaim, he received a Master’s Degree in Special Education of the Learning Disabled and Neurologically Impaired from New York University. Active in the field of Chinuch for over thirty years, he has served as a teacher of self-contained classrooms, mainstream classes and as a remediator in the range of areas in Limudei Kodesh and English studies, from pre-1A to adult. He has also served as a learning consultant to Menahelim, and conducts workshops and teacher training courses throughout the country for rebbeim moros, and parents, and masters level courses in reading and education for colleges and universities. Rabbi Elkins has consulted with many Poskim and Roshei Yeshivos including Rav Simcha Wasserman zt”l, Rav Avraham Pam zt”l, Rav Shlomo Freifeld zt”l, Rav Chaim Pinchas Scheinberg zt”l, and yb”l Rav Shmuel Kamenetsky shlita, regarding a range of chinuch questions and affecting Merkaz L’Chinuch HaTorah talmidim.

Our supporting staff of experienced rebbeim is specially trained in remediation techniques for kriah, Gemara, and other Limudei Kodesh subjects. Tutors of English subjects are Bnei Torah with appropriate masters’ level qualifications.

Rabbi Elkins is the author of Unconventional Wisdom: Torah Perspectives on the Child Who Has Difficulty Learning (Targum, 1997) which provides original sources in Chazal as well as discussions with contemporary Gedolim on the issues concerning our responsibilities and obligations to educate those with learning difficulties. He is also the author of The Lashon HaKodesh Screen (2006), a tool for grade, school or community-wide screening to detect learning issues in the earliest stages, facilitating early intervention.
